Garceau's Gem Runs Winning Streak to Three

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 4, 2014) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 7-1 on Wednesday night in the third game of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Both sides remained scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Ducks put up a five-spot against Barnstormers starter Cody Scarpetta. Lew Ford's two-run single, Joash Brodin's two-run double and Randy Ruiz's RBI single, all with two outs, highlighted the inning.

It stayed that way until the seventh when Ford launched an opposite field two-run home run to increase the lead to 7-0. A ninth inning solo homer by Amos Ramon accounted for the lone Lancaster run of the night.

Shaun Garceau (4-1) went the distance for a complete game win. He allowed just one run on seven hits and three walks while striking out nine. Scarpetta (0-2) took the loss, yielding five runs on four hits and four walks with six strikeouts in five innings.

Ford led the Flock at the plate with two hits, four RBI and two runs scored.

The Ducks and Barnstormers wrap up their four-game set on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with gates opening at 5:35 p.m. It will be Principal Financial Dreams Tour Night at the ballpark! The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Reusable Shopping Bags, courtesy of Principal Financial. Right-hander Fernando Hernandez gets the start for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Mark Rogers.

Duck Tales: Shaun Garceau tossed his second complete game in the last 11 days. The first of the two came on Sunday, May 25 in Sugar Land against the Skeeters when he allowed just five hits and three walks while striking out six. His nine strikeouts tied the season-high for a Ducks pitcher, which John Brownell achieved on Monday night. In his last five starts, Garceau is 4-0 with a 1.85 ERA and 30 strikeouts to just nine walks...Cody Puckett extended his on-base streak to 27 games with a single in the seventh inning. That is the longest on-base streak in the Atlantic League this season, two more than teammate Lew Ford's 25-game streak from May 3 to 30. The second baseman has at least one hit in 23 of the 27 games during the streak. Joash Brodin extended his on-base streak to 25 consecutive games with a double in the third...With three hits in the game, Ford picked up his fifth three-hit game of the year, which ties him with Puckett for the team lead. He now has 16 multi-hit games this season, one more than Puckett for the most on the Flock. His two-run homer was his seventh of the season, which ties him with Adam Bailey for the team lead. Long Island has now gone deep in 29 times on the season...The Ducks set a new high water mark on the season by improving to five games over .500 at 21-16. Their high water mark in 2013 was nine games over .500.
