Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

Sugar Land took a 7-4 victory over Bridgeport in tonight's game, making the current series 3-0 in favor of the Skeeters. With the win tonight, the team now owns an 18-21 record overall with a 9-11 record at Constellation Field. The Skeeters showered 14 hits on the Bluefish, with five players collecting multiple hits. Sugar Land's offense has now had two or more batters with multiple hits in seven of their nine match-ups against Bridgeport in 2014.

Starter Steve Hammond (5.0,5,4,3,3,1) spent 5.0 innings on the mound and gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits with one strikeout and three walks. Tonight's win marked his second of the season and his first since May 14 at Southern Maryland.

Skeeters left fielder Ryan Langerhans (3x4, 2 R, RBI) knocked a leadoff double in the first and came around to score on a groundout by third baseman Travis Scott (2x4, RBI). Langerhans reached base again in the third and scored the Skeeters' second run of the night, driven in by newly-acquired outfielder Brian Barton (1x4, RBI).

Sugar Land then plated three runs in the fourth, taking a 5-4 lead initiated by a two-run triple from second baseman Chase Lambin (2x5, 2 R, 2 RBI). First baseman Delwyn Young (2x4, 2 RBI) then hit a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Lambin to tag and score for the third Skeeters run in the frame. In the fifth, Langerhans extended his team's lead with an RBI-single to right allowing center fielder Adam Godwin (3x4, 2 R) to score. Lambin got the ball rolling in the eighth with a single and was moved to third on a base-hit to right-center field by Young. The next batter, Scott, hit a sacrifice fly to left field that would score Lambin, giving the Skeeters a 7-4 advantage.

Right-hander Ramon Delgado (1.0,0,0,0,0,0) entered the game in the sixth to relieve Hammond and dealt 1.0 inning without giving up a hit or a run. Lefty Cory VanAllen (0.2,1,0,0,0,0) took the mound in the seventh for 0.2 inning and gave up one hit and no runs before being replaced by Roy Corcoran (1.1,0,0,0,0,0), who retired Bridgeport's Ramon Castro to end the seventh. Corcoran pitched through the eighth inning, holding Bridgeport scoreless to provide the save opportunity for Gary Majewski (1.0,2,0,0,0,1). Majewski went on to collect his sixth save of the season and extended his current scoreless inning streak to 28.0 innings (27 appearances) since August 18, 2013.
