South Carolina Stingrays News Release
THE MATCHUP
The South Carolina Stingrays look to complete the season series sweep of the Cincinnati Cyclones this afternoon. The Stingrays claimed a 4-1 victory on home ice against the Cyclones last night thanks to a hat trick for forward David Pacan. Brendan Ellis and Paul Rodrigues also notched a pair of assists while goaltender Mark Dekanich earned his seventh win of the season stopping 28 shots. The Stingrays swept the season series versus Cincinnati last season as well.
PACAN'S THE MAN
Forward David Pacan burned his former club with a hat trick in a 4-1 win last night. Pacan spent two years with the Cyclones including the 2014-2015 season. His hat trick was his second of the season as he also registered three goals in a 6-3 win over Orlando on November 24. Pacan has three multi-goal games this season for the Stingrays this season and is tied for the team lead with nine goals.
FORMER CYCLONES AND FORMER RAYS
South Carolina's David Pacan, Stephan Vigier and Branden Komm all skated for the Cyclones last season while the Cyclones Jack Downing and Branden Gracel both were members of the South Carolina Stingrays last year. Stingrays Colin Mulvey and goalie Mark Dekanich also spend time with the Cyclones during their careers.
TOP 5 PENALTY KILL DOES IT AGAIN
South Carolina was a perfect 5/5 on the penalty kill last night. The Stingrays penalty kill is now ranked 5th in the ECHL, denying 86.3% of opponents chances on the power play. The Stingrays have also scored four shorthanded goals this season.
KOMM NAMED GOALIE OF WEEK
Goaltender Branden Komm is a perfect 6-0-0-0 on the season. After recording his first ECHL shutout on Sunday in a 3-0 win over Norfolk, Komm was named the CCM Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week. Komm has posted a 1.67 goals-against average this season and a .929 save percentage.
