TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (10-8-0-2) face the Colorado Eagles (11-5-0-0) for the fourth of five consecutive matches between these two clubs. The game also marks Ontario's first match at home since Nov. 11, as the Reign completed a season-high nine-game road trip that concluded with three games against the Eagles, of which Ontario earned one victory against Colorado.
LEADING THE WAY:
Reign defenseman Matt Register is tied with Colorado forward Nathan moon for the point lead in the season series with four points (2g-2a). Moon scored the game-winning goal on a converted penalty shot in last Saturday's match at the Budweiser Events Center.
SHOT FROM THE POINT:
Of the five goals Ontario has scored against Colorado so far in the season series, four of them have come from defensemen: Register (2), Jeff May (1) and Ralfs Freibergs (1). While offensive contributions from the blueline are always a plus, the Reign will need to see production from top scorers such as Derek Couture and Tristan King over the course of the season to expect results against a team that has the third-stingiest defense (2.50 goals-against average) in the ECHL.
FIRST GOAL CRUCIAL:
The Reign posses a 10-2-0-1 record when scoring first this season, while the Eagles are a perfect 8-0-0-0 when securing the first goal. Fortunately, Colorado has a tendency to start slow, with a -2 goal differential in the opening period (12 GF, 14 GA), while the Reign own a +6 differential in the first frame (18 GF, 12 GA).
CUTTHROAT CONNECTION:
Reign fans are expected to get their first look at home of left winger Vincent Arseneau, who joined the team in the midst of their road trip. He may face a familiar foe, as he was teammates with Eagles defenseman Sean Zimmerman, as both were teammates in 2013-14 with the Central Hockey League's Denver Cutthroats, advancing to that league's finals.
