Evansville IceMen News Release

EVANSVILLE, Ind- The Evansville IceMen, presented by Coors Light could not overcome an early deficit as they fell to the Kalamazoo Wings by a score of 5-2 at the Ford Center. A crowd of 4,641 watched as the IceMen (8-9-1-1, 18 points) dropped their second consecutive game. They are now 6-3 on home ice.

Just two minutes into the game, Kalamazoo found the back of the net. Curtis Valk stole the puck in the IceMen zone and put the Wings on the board as he beat Ben Meisner on a breakaway.

Less than three minutes later, Kalamazoo added to it's lead. With a delayed penalty coming on the IceMen, Valk lit the lamp for the second time. Gergo Nagy and Ludwig Blomstrand picked up the assists on Valk's extra attacker goal that gave Kalamazoo a 2-0 lead.

With under two minutes to go in the first period, Justin Taylor tucked in a rebound to push the Kalamazoo lead to three. Taylor's second of the season was also Kalamazoo's second extra attacker goal of the game.

Kalamazoo's three first period goals chased Meisner from his IceMen debut. Rookie goalie, Branden Komm entered in the second period in relief.

With under a minute to go in the second period, Kalamazoo netted a power play goal to push the lead to 4-0. Matt Caria scored on a cross crease feed from Nathan Longpre to put the IceMen in a four-goal hole at the second intermission.

In the third period, the IceMen got on the board. Guy Lepine carried the puck down low then found Kevin Harvey on a cross-crease feed. Harvey slammed in his sixth of the season to cut the Kalamazoo lead to 4-1.

With time winding under the four minute mark, Matt Lowrydished the puck t Kale Kerbashian with his back to the net in the high slot. Kerbashian turned and fired in a slapshot to cut the Kalamazoo lead to 4-2. Kerbashian's sixth of the season gave him the team lead in points with 15.

The IceMen pulled Komm for the extra attacker. Nagy tapped one into the empty net to secure a 5-2 win for the Wings. Valk added an assist on Nagy's empty netter to finish with three points on the night.

Komm stopped 18 of the 19 shots he saw in relief and even challenged his opposing goaltender Jeff Martin to fight. Martin declined the duel, but also declined 35 of the 37 pucks that came his way.
