The Thunder opened Stockton Arena with quite a few firsts. Mike Lalonde scored the first goal in the Arena's history and Jake Moreland stopped all 22 Phoenix Roadrunners shots to mark the team's first shutout and first home victory in a 4-0 final. It was a sellout of 10,117 fans in the building.

Dropping the Puck

Be sure to get to your seats early as former Thunder player Daryl Marcoux will be in attendance tonight to drop the ceremonial first puck. Marcoux played for the Thunder from 2008 to 2011 totaling 166 games, 6 goals, 32 assists and 107 PIMS. He was also named the Defenseman of the Year for the Thunder in his first campaign with the team in 2008-09.

In addition Marcoux will be available for autographs at the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel 30-40 minutes after the game.

Last Time Out

The Aces scored a late goal in the first when Chris Francis' pass banked off of Brendan Connolly's skate and past Kent Simpson. The Thunder scored two quick goals to start the second as J.T. Barnett an Ryan Constant both scored their second goals of the season in a span of 2:01. However the Aces scored a last minute, second period goal to tie it up.

Jack MacLellan scored his third goal in two games but again the Aces tied in the last minute of the game. It looked like the game was going to a skills competition but Brad Cole placed a wristshot far-side on Simpson and would get the extra point in the Aces 4-3 win.

Tonight

The Thunder carry a two-game points streak into tonight's game after a win last Friday and an overtime defeat to the Aces last night has given them 3 out of a possible 4 points. The Thunder would like to turn the record against their rival from Anchorage as the Thunder are just 1-4-1 this season. In the last five seasons the Thunder have beaten the Aces just 12 of 42 games.

Who to Watch

Usually we reserve this spot for a single player to watch, but tonight the players to watch is the line of Alex Mallet, J.T. Barnett and Jack MacLellan. The line has been on fire since being formed in the wake of the injury to Tyler Maxwell on November 26 vs. Bakersfield.

In the last two games Mallet has 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) along with MacLellan (2 goals, 2 assists) while Barnett has 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists), giving the line 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) as a whole. They have led the Thunder the last two games and look to do the same again tonight.

Return of the Captain!

Captain and Assistant Coach Garet Hunt finally got back in his gear Thursday as he suited up for the first time in 11 games. It didn't take long for Hunt to get back to his bruising ways as he dropped the mitts just one second into the game off the opening draw with Justin Johnson.

"He's a tough contender. It's just a way to set the tone at the beginning of a three-game series. I'm just looking to help the team in any way possible," Hunt said.

Hunt showed no signs of rust after his time off and found his way back into the lineup with ease on his first night back. And his opening draw fight certainly set the tone for the rest of this series as both teams will assuredly keep up the physicality displayed on Thursday.

The Simpson

Kent Simpson got the call between the pipes for the Thunder on Thursday and, despite allowing four goals, made 37 saves, many of which he had no business making.

Odd man rushes, rebounds cross-cage, point blank shots from the slot, Simpson was up to the task all night. He kept the Thunder in the game when they were down and sustained the lead when they were ahead. If not for a few bad bounces, Simpson would have had a memorable win.

Unfortunately for the newly loaned to Stockton goaltender, it was not in the cards as his team fell in overtime.
