TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (36-17-4-5) play their final match of three games in four nights against the Alaska Aces (29-25-3-4). Ontario has a 6-2-0-0 record against Alaska this season. Ontario is 30-27-5 all-time against Alaska since the two clubs began competition against each other in 2008-09. This week's series marks the final time that the Reign will face the Aces at Citizens Business Bank Arena in the ECHL.
KITSYN - RUSSIAN FOR "HOWE" :
In his first game back for Ontario following a two-game call-up to the Manchester Monarchs, Maxim Kitsyn recorded a goal, assist and fight for his first career Gordie Howe hat trick on Wednesday. The former 2010 draft choice of the LA Kings then repeated the feat in Friday's match with the Aces as well, adding an additional goal. It has been a season of firsts for the former sixth-round pick of the LA Kings, as he also recorded his first North American pro hat trick earlier in the season on Feb. 7 at Colorado.
CHRISTIE CLIMBING ECHL COACHING WINS LADDER:
Jason Christie's next victory behind the bench will tie him with Jeff Pyle (Mobile, 1998-02; Gwinnett, 2003-11; Evansville, 2013-14) for third all-time in ECHL coaching wins with 477, and will put him only three wins back from tying John Brophy (Hampton Roads, 1989-2000 and Wheeling, 2001-03) for second all-time with 480.
SHOTS PILING UP:
Since returning home for their season-high seven-game home stand at Citizens Business Bank Arena, the Reign have averaged 29.80 shots for per game through the first five matches, while only surrendering 21.4 shots against per game.
OLKINUORA THREE WINS AWAY FROM HISTORY:
With 34 career wins in a Reign uniform, Jussi Olkinuora's next three victories will give him sole possession of first place of the club's career wins record, currently held by Chris Carrozzi, who suited up with the Reign from 2011-13.
