Atlanta Gladiators News Release

ORLANDO, Fla. - On a busy Saturday night in Orlando, the Gladiators (17-40-3-3) stuck around with the Orlando Solar Bears (33-22-4-3) for over half of the game, but the Solar Bears would run off with a 6-2 win thanks to four unanswered goals. Scott Arnold and Greg Carey scored for the Gladiators, and Mike Lee had 33 saves in net.

The Gladiators took the early 1-0 lead on an aggressive play from Scott Arnold. As the Solar Bears were attempting to control the tempo, Arnold jumped on a pass left behind Garret Sparks. Before Sparks could realize that the puck was coming his way on the left post, Arnold skated up in front and slammed it through him at 2:40, Gwinnett's second shot of the period.

From there, Orlando tied the score at 14:05 of the period on a John McInnis goal. Former Gladiator Marshall Everson led a two-on-one rush into the offensive zone, and finished the play by passing across to McInnis at the last moment. The two teams played a close and competitive period, with Orlando just edging out Gwinnett in shots, 13-to-12.

Playing severely tilted ice in the offensive zone to start the second period, the Solar Bears took the lead at 8:05 on Peter Sivak's 12th goal of season from the right circle.

Greg Carey's one-timer on a slick, cross-ice pass from Brock Higgs at 11:21 on the power play tied the score back up a few minutes later. But two-and-a-half minutes after that, Ben Johnson would give Orlando a lead back that they wouldn't relinquish. He tipped a Mike Keenan shot from the top of the zone, and the puck handcuffed Mike Lee at 13:51.

Jacob Cepis would add another with a minute remaining in the second period for his team-leading 14th goal of the year. In the third, the Solar Bears tacked on two more, another from John McInnis at 5:16, and Brady Vail with a shorthanded, empty-net goal at 16:29.

The Gladiators will play one more game at the Amway Center, wrapping up their three-game road series on Tuesday, March 24th. The game will be broadcast on WDUN.com and www.gwinnettgladiators.com/radio, starting at 6:45 p.m. Gwinnett's next home game will be on March 27th at 7:35 p.m. as they host Orlando for Friendly Friday.
