GREENVILLE, SC - In the third of three head-to-head meetings between the two teams this season, the Indy Fuel powered past the Greenville Road Warriors on Saturday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina by a final score of 6-1. With the win, the Fuel improved to 26-28-4-5 overall this season and with 61 points, pulled into a tie with the Cincinnati Cyclones for sixth place in the ECHL's North Division standings, just one point shy of playoff position.
Mike Duco started the scoring on Saturday as the Fuel captain delivered his 16th marker of the season with a nifty deflection just over one minute into the game on a feed from Pete Massar. In the second period, Jamie Wise made it 2-0 Fuel at 5:00 when the Stouffville, Ontario native muscled home a Chris DeSousa rebound. Then, at 6:34, a strong left-wing rush by Peter Schneider earned the Vienna, Austria native his first professional goal, an even-strength laser set up by Kyle Stroh and Justin Holl that made it 3-0 Fuel.
A power-play goal from Greenville's Michael St. Croix briefly drew the Road Warriors within two at 9:00, but a one-timer from Stroh pushed the Indy advantage to 4-1 thanks to feeds from Garett Bembridge and Nick Bruneteau at 17:06. In the third, Stroh added another marker at 3:40, with Bembridge and DeSousa assisting beofre Matt White's tenth of the season capped Saturday's scoring at 6-1 with Holl and Schneider collecting assists at 7:40.
Stroh's three points gave the Vibank, Saskatchewan native three goals and eight points in three games at Bon Secours Wellness Arena this season. When all was said and done on Saturday, five Fuel players finished with multi-point performances including Stroh (2G, 1A), Bembridge (3A), Schneider (1G, 1A), Holl (2A) and DeSousa (2A). Shane Owen earned the win in net thanks to a 37-save showing while Jason Missiaen took the loss for Greenville after being pulled in the wake of three goals allowed on 11 pucks faced in 26:34 of playing time.
