Aberdeen IronBirds News Release

Bats Go Quiet in 5-1 Loss

One night removed from a nine hit extra inning win, the Aberdeen IronBirds managed just four hits in a 5-1 loss to the Williamsport Crosscutters Saturday night at Bowman Field. John Means took the loss, but pitched well. He allowed just one hit through the first three innings, but ran into trouble in the fourth. He allowed three consecutive singles to start off the inning, although only one left the infield. After getting a strike out, Wilson Garcia knocked a two run single through the left side of the infield, giving Williamsport a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish. Jiandido Tromp hit a long two run home run off of reliever Stefan Crichton in the fifth, and Emmanuel Marrero had an RBI double to right in the sixth rounding out the scoring. Means ended up pitching 3.2 innings, allowing five hits and two runs. He did not walk a batter, but struck out three.

Gonzalez, Murphy, Wilkerson Collect Hits

The IronBirds' four hits came from Jay Gonzalez, Alex Murphy, and Steve Wilkerson. Gonzalez had himself a two hit night with singles in the third and sixth. Murphy extended his hitting streak to five games with a single in the sixth, and Wilkerson hit a two out single in the fifth.
