August 3, 2014 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
State College, PA (8/3/2014)- The Hudson Valley Renegades won their third game in a row on Sunday evening, defeating the State College Spikes 2-0. With the victory, they improve to 35-15 overall in 2014. Now 20 games over .500, Hudson Valley owns the best record in the New York-Penn League by one game. They are the first team to record 35 total wins, and the first to reach 16 wins on the road. After a Brooklyn loss tonight, the Renegades now hold a nine game lead over the Cyclones in first place of the McNamara Division.
In a game that remained scoreless through the first four innings, Hudson Valley struck first with one run in the top of the fifth. They would add one more in the eighth, giving them their second and final run of the night. Two would be plenty in a game where the opponent was unable to put a run on the board.
Nolan Gannon followed in the footsteps of Enderson Franco just one night prior, earning his fifth win of the season. The Californian went five innings with three strikeouts and no runs allowed. He now boasts a 5-1 record and a 2.79 ERA in eight starts this season.
The Renegades used a combination of two relievers out of the bullpen, as Trevor Dunlap and Kyle McKenzie came on in relief. Each went two innings with one strikeout, and neither surrendered a run. Gannon got the win, and McKenzie picked up the save in the outing. The Tulane product now has three saves this season in his brief action with Hudson Valley. As a team, the Renegades' 3.09 ERA is still the lowest of all 14 teams in the league.
Offensively, Jace Conrad led the charge going 3-4 in the game. Hunter Lockwood got the start in the seven spot of the lineup, and went 2-4 at the plate. Hudson Valley scored their two runs on eight hits and did not commit an error defensively.
Notes: The Renegades have now taken the first two games against the Pinckney Division's first place team. State College holds the third best record in the New York-Penn League, but have lost their last three games including two against Hudson Valley. Hunter Lockwood currently leads all active players in the league in both home runs and runs batted in. He has 11 homers and 37 RBI's, and with 34 runs scored he leads the entire league in that category.
The Renegades return home on Wednesday, August 6th to host the Williamsport Crosscutters at Dutchess Stadium. First pitch is 7:05 PM. Join is for "Couples vs Singles Night," a night dedicated to singles and couples to see if two heads are better than one.
