
Tigers Get Back to Winning Ways

Brooklyn, NY - The Connecticut Tigers (27-23) defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones (26-24) by the score of 5-1 Sunday night at MCU Park. DH Ben Verlander (3-3) led the way for the Tigers. Verlander put together a three hit, one RBI performance in the win. Verlander put the Tigers ahead 1-0 in the second inning with an RBI single.
In his ninth appearance of the season, RHP Confesor Lara (1-2) picked up his first win. Lara pitched five innings in relief of starter RHP AJ Ladwig who pitched two shutout innings. Lara gave up one run on two hits and struck out two batters. RHP Johan Belisario pitched a perfect ninth inning to extend his scoreless streak to 15.2 innings. The night after the Cyclones held the Tigers to one run on five hits, the Tigers pitching repays Brooklyn's offense on Sunday night as they held them to just one run on five hits. The Cyclones were 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left six on base.
Besides Verlander's performance on the offensive side of things, 1B Will Maddox (3-4) put together his first three hit performance of the season and just his fifth multiple-hit game. All three hits by Maddox were for singles. Maddox also had two runs scored in the game. Maddox and Verlander combined to go 6-for-7 as they had six of the team's eight hits. The rest of the team went a combined 2-for-28. Despite the win the Tigers were just 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base.
In the series finale, Tigers RHP Chase Edwards (4-2, 2.94) is slated to face RHP Casey Meisner (1-3, 5.97). The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and cttigers.com.
The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League.
