From the Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indians saw 2-1, 5-2 and 9-5 leads vanish in last night's 10-9, 12-inning loss to the Clippers. Columbus walked off on a Brandon Barnes fielder's choice, where the Indians attempted to turn a double play to send the game to the 13th. Instead, Barnes beat the turn to first to hand Indy its fifth walk-off loss of the season and third in a 14-day span (also: 7/18 @ GWN, 7/20 @ CHA). Kevin Kramer (12) and Jason Martin (2) both homered for the Tribe. Kramer fell a triple shy of the cycle, finishing 4-for-6 with his second-inning dinger, 26th double, three RBI and two runs scored. The home team scored one in the eighth and two in the ninth to force extras. Indy then plated four runs in the top of the 10th, only to see the Clippers score four in the bottom half. The Indians' Tanner Anderson (BS, 3) and Dovydas Neverauskas (BS, 2) were charged with blown saves, marking the first time this season where Indy blew multiple saves in a game. Kevin Newman (3-for-6, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 R, 1 SB), Ryan Lavarnway (2-for-6, 1 R) and Jerrick Suiter (2-for-6, 1 RBI) each had multi-hit games for Indy.

GOODBYEEE COLUMBUSSS: Indy suffered its ninth loss in 12 games at Huntington Park last night, their most in a single season at Columbus dating back to 1988. Indy had dropped eight games in Columbus two other times, 2008 (3-8) and 2016 (6-8). The Indians trail the season series 11-10 with four games to play (1 @ COL tonight, 3 vs. COL [Aug. 21-23]).

KRAMER GOES OFF: Kevin Kramer had four hits in six at-bats last night, making him the first Tribe player in 2018 to have at least two games with four-plus knocks. Last year, Danny Ortiz (3x) and Joey Terdoslavich (2x) were the only Indians with multiple four-hit efforts. Kramer is the first Tribe player with a four- and five-hit game in a season since Josh Harrison in 2011. Harrison recorded his only four-hit game that season on April 26 vs. Norfolk before logging a five-hit game on May 28 at Pawtucket.

FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME: Kevin Kramer's home run in the second inning last night was his team-high 12th of the season and first since June 20 vs. Norfolk. The towering blast off southpaw Adam Wilk snapped a drought of 138 plate appearances without a home run for the 24-year-old. Kramer was 4-for-24 (.167) with no extra-base hits, three RBI and one run scored in eight games leading up to last night's performance.

2.15: Clay Holmes owns a 2.15 ERA (14 ER/58.2 IP) over his last 10 starts between Pittsburgh (two starts), Indy (seven starts) and High-A Bradenton (one start) dating back to June 2.

16: Indy finished 16-13 in July, their second straight month with 16-plus victories (June, 18-10). The last time Indy had back-to-back months of 16 or more wins was May and June of 2017. The Tribe went 21-8 that May and followed it up with a 17-12 record in June. The last time Indy finished with exactly 16 wins in a calendar month was May 2014 (16-14).

WELL, THAT'S STRANGE: The Indians ended July 2017 with a familiar game, record and place in the IL West Division standings. In their final game of the month of July last summer, Indy defeated Pawtucket 3-2 in a 12-inning affair on July 30 at The Vic; the Tribe played 12 innings last night. Indy was 59-49 after the win over the PawSox; they're 59-49 after last night's defeat. The July 30, 2017 win over Pawtucket gave Indy a 2.5-game lead over Columbus for first in the IL West; they enter the month of August with a 2.5-game lead over both Columbus and Toledo this year.

BY THE NUMBERS - 12 / 4:23: Last night's game lasted 12 innings and took 4 hours, 23 minutes to complete. The game was the longest for the Tribe both innings and time wise in 2018. It ranks as the eighth-longest road game by time in the Victory Field era (1996-present) and was the longest game by time for the Indians since a 4-hour and 32-minute, 13-inning marathon at Toledo on June 3, 2016.
