(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Charlotte Knights outfielder Eloy Jiménez, who is ranked as the top prospect in the Chicago White Sox system by Baseball America and MLB.com, has been named as the Chicago White Sox Minor League Player of the Month for July. The award is voted on each month by a panel of Chicago-area media members.
Jiménez, 21, hit .435 (27-for-62) with 13 runs scored, seven doubles, six home runs, and 13 RBIs over 16 games in the month of July with the Knights. In a total of 27 games played with the Knights this season since his promotion from Double-A Birmingham on June 21st, Jiménez is batting .376 (38-for-101) with 16 runs scored, eight doubles, eight home runs, and 17 RBIs. Since his promotion, he is also leading the International League in batting average (.376) and is second in the league in on-base percentage (.423).
A native of Santo Domingo, DR, Jiménez compiled a .317 (65-for-205) batting average with 36 runs scored, 15 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, and 42 RBIs over 53 with the Barons earlier this season. At the time of his promotion to Charlotte on June 21st, he ranked second in the Southern League in batting average, tied for fifth in home runs, tied for second in RBIs, and first in slugging percentage (.556). He represented the Barons at the 2018 Southern League All-Star Game.
Jiménez was acquired by the White Sox from the Chicago Cubs on July 13, 2017 as part of the trade that sent LHP José Quintana to the Cubs. Originally signed as a free agent by the Cubs on August 1, 2013, he entered the 2018 season ranked by MLB.com as the number four overall prospect in all of baseball.
The Knights will continue their four-game series against the Norfolk Tides tonight at BB&T Ballpark. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. and two-time American League Cy Young Award winner Bret Saberhagen will meet fans and sign autographs as part of the Harris Teeter and Old Spice Celeb Series. Single-game tickets for all games are on sale now and can be purchased in person at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office, online at CharlotteKnights.com, or by phone at 704-274-8282.
