Pigs and Bisons Split Doubleheader

Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

Lehigh Valley split their doubleheader with the Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday in upstate New York. The Pigs took the first game 1-0, and dropped the second game 2-1. With the split, the Pigs maintain their dominant lead on top of the IL North Division, and the Pigs take the five-game set after winning the first three games.

Game one of the set was relatively quiet, as the two teams combined for only one run. That one run was the 20th home run of the year from Joey Meneses. The solo shot put Joey back on top of the International League leaderboard. The solo home run from Meneses was just enough for the win thanks to a dominant performance by Cole Irvin, who tossed the second shutout of the season for Lehigh Valley with seven innings of five-hit ball. While the Pigs were unable to score for the rest of the game, Dean Anna was still able to extend his hitting streak to 20 games with an infield single in his final at-bat.

The nightcap looked to be similar to the opening match early on when a leadoff home run by Danny Espinosa made it a 1-0 contest. Ranfi Casimiro worked quickly on the mound in his first start with the Pigs since July 7th with some time spent with Double-A Reading, but he hit a snag in the fourth inning when Danny Jansen smacked a two-run home run to left field. Buffalo then padded their lead in the fifth inning with a solo home run from Jonathan Davis. The insurance run proved necessary when the Pigs scored a final run in the seventh on a Jesmuel Valentin sacrifice fly.

The Pigs have already won the five-game series with Buffalo, but the two teams will meet for the final time in 2018 in the series finale tomorrow. First pitch from Coca-Cola Field will come at 1:05 p.m. tomorrow, as Drew Anderson will face former IronPig Jacob Waguespack, who was recently traded by the Phillies to Toronto.

The Pigs Return to Coca-Cola Park on Friday for a weekend series against the Syracuse Chiefs with plenty of great promotions, including a scout sleepover and Aerosmith-themed fireworks presented by Coors Light on Friday, followed by Lego Weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

The 2018 Season is the IronPigs' 11th season at Coca-Cola Park and 11th as the top affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. Fans can get closer to the team than ever before with a Bacon, USA membership -- a year-round IronPigs experience pass featuring numerous amenities such as savings on parking at games and at the Majestic Clubhouse Store at Coca-Cola Park, on-field VIP access to watch batting practice, access to the annual holiday party, and more.
