Louisville Bats News Release

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Bats and Mud Hens meet in the series finale on Wednesday night in what will be their final regular season matchup at Fifth Third Field in 2018. Louisville won a rain-shortened game last night to even the series, shutting out the Hens with a 2-0 victory. The game was called before the bottom of the ninth inning started, handing Louisville its second rain-shortened win this season.

AGAINST TOLEDO: The Bats and Mud Hens meet for their fourth and final series at Fifth Third Field this season. In their last meeting, Toledo took 2 of 3 against Louisville at Louisville Slugger Field heading into the All-Star break. In this series, Louisville faces off against a divisional opponent for the first time since July 15 vs. Columbus, playing their previous 14 games against teams based in New York.

STRIVE FOR FIVE: The Bats have currently won each of their last 4 series, the first time that's happened since April 24 - May 8, 2016, sweeping 3 games at Norfolk (4/24-4/26), taking 4 of 5 from Durham in a split series (4/27-5/1), taking 2 of 3 vs. Norfolk (5/2-5/4) and taking 2 of 3 at Indianapolis (5/6-5/8).

-With a win today, LOU would have 5+ consecutive series wins for the first time since the 2010 season, the last time the Bats made the International League postseason. In 2010, LOU won their first 7 series coming out of the All-Star break, taking 3 of 4 vs. Lehigh Valley (7/15-7/18), 3 of 4 at Charlotte (7/19-7/22), sweeping 3 at Gwinnett (7/23-7/25), sweeping 4 vs. Charlotte (7/27-7/30), taking 3 of 4 in a split-series against Columbus (7/31-8/4), sweeping 4 vs. Norfolk (8/5-8/8), and finally, sweeping 4 at Toledo (8/9-8/12) to start the second half that season with an immaculate 24-3 record.

SCHEBLER HOMERS ON REHAB: In 6 games during his current rehab stint, Scott Schebler is batting .286 (6-for-21) with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts at the plate. He went 3-for-4 last night, hitting a solo home run in the third inning, his first with Louisville this season. The Major League rehabber has appeared at designated hitter in each of his 6 starts. Schebler became the first LOU player to hit a home run while on MLB rehab assignment since catcher Devin Mesoraco launched a grand slam at Louisville Slugger Field on July 17, 2017 vs. Syracuse.

RAIN OVER ME: The Bats are now 2-0 in rain-shortened games this season after Tuesday's game was called before the bottom of the ninth inning began. Their other win in a rain-shortened contest came on June 20 vs. Durham, leading 9-6 before the game was called with one out in the top of the eighth with the Bulls at bat.

J0SE L0PEZ: Right-hander Jose Lopez tossed 7.0 scoreless innings last night as the Bats coasted to a 2-0 lead. His second seven-inning performance this season without allowing a run is tied for the longest scoreless start by a Louisville pitcher this season. Lopez previously accomplished it on June 15, also at Toledo. Homer Bailey (7/18 at ROC), Justin Nicolino (7/20 at SYR) and Robert Stephenson (7/24 vs. BUF, complete game shutout) have also accomplished it for LOU in 2018.

SHOWIN' OUT IN SHUTOUTS: The Bats won their fifth shutout game of 2018, improving their record in shutout games to 5-2 this season. The 7 shutout games are the fewest played in the IL. LOU's .714 winning percentage in shutouts is tied for best in the league with Toledo.
