Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers dropped the finale of their three-game series to the Indianapolis Indians, 5-4, tonight at Huntington Park.

The Indians came from behind in the sixth inning, and never looked back, winning the series 2-1.

The Clippers started the fourth inning hot with three consecutive singles from Yandy Diaz, Brandon Barnes and Eric Haase, who loaded the Bases for Yu Chang. Chang then lined a ball up the middle, off the glove of diving shortstop Max Moroff, for a fourth straight single and a 1-0 lead. After that, Mike Papi grounded into a double play to score another, making it 2-0.

The Indians came back to tie things up in the fifth with runners on second and third. Moroff ripped a double to right off Clippers' starter Adam Plutko, scoring both runners to make it 2-2.

Plutko was done after that, having scattered five hits through his four and one-third innings of work. He walked one a struck out four.

The Clippers took another lead in the home half of the fifth after Eric Stamets led off with a double and was bunted to third by Drew Maggi. Yandy Diaz proceeded to drill a ball to deep right for a sacrifice fly, giving Columbus a 3-2 advantage.

Indy roared back again in the sixth to take their first lead. With men on second and third, Jerrick Suiter pounded a ball to center, scoring Kevin Kramer, who narrowly beat the throw home from Barnes. Erich Weiss then singled in Wyatt Mathisen to claim a 4-3 lead.

Indians' starter Tyler Eppler held strong, pitching into the seventh inning. All three runs he allowed were earned on eight hits. He walked and struck out one in his six and two-thirds innings.

His squad added one more run in the top of the ninth when Pablo Reyes homered to left, giving Indy a 5-3 lead.

Diaz scored one with a sac-fly in the ninth to pull the Clippers within 5-4, but that's where things would finish.

The Clippers will host the Louisville Bats tomorrow at Huntington Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
