Game-Ending Double Play Seals Extra-Inning Win for the Knights

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Charlotte Knights flirted with danger on Friday evening but escaped Gwinnett Field with a 4-3, extra-inning victory over the Gwinnett Stripers. Charlotte took a one run lead into the bottom of the tenth inning and worked out of a bases-loaded jam thanks to a game-ending double-play.

The Knights and Stripers were tied 3-3 at the end of nine. Charlotte plated their automatic runner in the top of the tenth on a sacrifice fly by Junior Perez. Once Gwinnett put runners at second and third with one out in the bottom half, Knights manager Chad Pinder dialed up a strategic intentional walk.

Chris Murphy executed a great pitch to the Stripers best hitter in Brewer Hicklen and induced a weak tapper in front of home plate. Catcher Korey Lee picked up the ball, stepped on home for one, and threw to first for the game-clinching out.

Earlier in the game, Perez broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI double to deep right-centerfield. Charlotte added an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning; however, the Stripers netted a two-run bloop single in the bottom of the inning to level the score.

Joe Rock made his Knights debut with two stellar innings pitched to begin the ballgame. Shane Murphy covered the next five frames with only one run allowed. Offensively, Mario Camilletti led the charge with a 2-for-4 performance.

The Knights have secured at worst a series split with two games remaining over the weekend. Saturday's contest is set for 6:05pm ET.
