Summary
Akron right-hander Hunter Gaddis pitched a career-long seven innings, and the RubberDucks scored four runs in the ninth inning, with catcher Bo Naylor hitting a game-winning, three-run home run for a 5-2 victory, snapping the Hartford Yard Goats' nine-game winning streak in the series opener at Dunkin' Donuts Park Tuesday night. Akron tied Richmond (33-25) for first place in the Southwest Division first-half race, one game ahead of Erie (32-26).
Turning Point
With Hartford leading, 2-1, entering the ninth inning, Hollowell issued a one-out walk to third baseman Raynel Delgado, and shortstop Daniel Schneemann singled to left-center field. Center fielder Julian Escobedo grounded a game-tying single to right field, and Naylor crushed a three-run home run to the seating atop the right-center field wall. His second home run of the road trip and fifth home run of the season gave Akron its first lead of the night at 5-2. It was the first blown save, loss, and home run allowed by Hollowell in 19 appearances for Hartford this season.
Mound Presence
Gaddis allowed hits to each of the first three batters of the first inning - a leadoff single to right fielder Daniel Montano, a two-run home run by shortstop Ezequiel Tovar, and an infield single to left fielder Jimmy Herron - but they were the only this he allowed. He picked Herron off first base and struck out the next two batters to end the inning. He faced one batter over the minimum in the rest of his seven-inning start, finishing with two walks and five strikeouts. Right-hander Kyle Marman pitched the eighth inning, allowing two walks and a single before an inning-ending ground-ball double play. Right-hander Thomas Ponticelli pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for a save in his first Akron outing this season.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks were held scoreless for six innings by Yard Goats left-hander Nick Bush. In the eighth inning, however, Escobedo hit a leadoff double against left-hander PJ Poulin, and right fielder George Valera hit a one-out RBI single. Poulin stranded the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position. Akron left eight runners on base in the first eight innings.
Notebook
Hartford, which had held the longest winning streak in Minor League Baseball, saw its lead trimmed to 1.5 games over Somerset (36-21) for first place in the Northeast Division...Game Time: 2:26...Attendance: 5,187.
