Gabbard Promoted to Triple-A, Rusty Tucker Joins Club

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have promoted Portland Sea Dogs left-handed pitcher Kason Gabbard to Triple-A Pawtucket. Left-handed pitcher Rusty Tucker was signed as a Minor League free agent by the Red Sox and assigned to Double-A Portland. Tucker will be active for Saturday's game against New Hampshire.

The 24-year-old, Gabbard, currently leads the Eastern League with nine wins and ranks 10th in the league with a 2.57 ERA. In 13 games with the Sea Dogs this season Gabbard is 9-2, striking out 68 batters in 73.2 innings pitched. He earned the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of May 1-7 as selected by Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM). He is the quickest Sea Dog in franchise history to earn nine wins in a season. A native of Royal Palm Beach, Florida Gabbard was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 29th round of the June 2000 draft.

Tucker, the 25-year-old Gloucester, Massachusetts native was selected by the Padres in the 21st round of the 2001 draft. Tucker, a former University of Maine pitcher, began the season with the White Sox Double-A affiliate Birmingham Barons going 1-2 with a 8.77 ERA in 20 appearances. Tucker's best season came in 2003 with Double-A Mobile where he posted a 2-6 record and a 3.74 ERA in 51 games and was named a Baseball America Double-A All-Star. Tucker becomes the second U-Maine pitcher to play for the Portland Sea Dogs joining Pete Fisher who played for the Sea Dogs in 2005.
