Thunder's "Reverse Giveaway" a success

Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, held "Reverse Giveaway Night" on Thursday, June 22 and by all accounts the event was a success.

The Reverse Giveaway Night promotion was one in which fans were asked to bring a gift to the ballpark for the Thunder to donate to the appropriate charity. This was a simple play on the fact that the Thunder, like most Minor League Baseball franchises, use giveaway items such as hats, t-shirts and bobblehead dolls, to attract fans to games. This season, the Thunder promotional schedule offers a total 40 giveaways in addition to 21 post game fireworks shows. While many Minor League Baseball teams have collected donations from fans at the gates, this is believed to be the first time a "Reverse Giveaway" promotion has been done in which fans were expected to bring a gift.

Thunder fans donated items such as toys, board games, canned foods and clothing. All of the items have been donated to the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.

"We had high expectations for this event and our fans really delivered," said Thunder General Manager Brad Taylor. "We received a great assortment of gifts from our fans, proving once again that Thunder fans are the best fans in baseball."

The Thunder and Connecticut Defenders (AA Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants) will begin a four game series tonight at 7:05 at Waterfront Park. The first 1,500 fans ages 6 & over will receive a Thunder team card set thanks to Verizon Wireless.
