Thunder infielder Felix Escalona activated from DL

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced that INF Felix Escalona has been activated from the disabled list. He was placed on the disabled list retroactive to June 4th, with a sore left hamstring. To make room for Escalona, RHP Jeremy King was transferred to the Tampa Yankees (High-A of the Florida State League)

Escalona joined the Thunder on May 18th after being transferred from the Columbus Clippers (AAA of the International League). He compiled a .274 BA with three home runs and 13 RBI in 16 games with the Thunder. Escalona had a grand slam as part of a six-run first inning during a 15-3 victory over Bowie on May 21st. He finished the game with 5 RBI. Escalona had a seven game hitting streak from May 28th through June 2nd. In 20 games for Columbus, he has a .186 BA with one home run and nine RBI.

He is in his 11th professional season, and played with the Yankees in 2004 and 2005. Escalona has appeared in 15 career games with the Yankees. Escalona also has Major League service time with Tampa Bay in 2002. He played in 59 games for the Devil Rays with a .217 BA, 0 HR and 9 RBI.

Escalona was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Houston Astros (9/20/95). He was selected in the Major League Rule 5 Draft (12/13/01) by San Francisco, but then was claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay just prior to the 2002 season. Escalona batted .274 with 7 HR and 45 RBI for Columbus in 2005.

King was 2-3 with a 6.56 ERA in 10 games including five starts for the Thunder in 2006. He has pitched in Trenton over parts of the last three seasons. During 2005, King spent most of the season with Tampa. He was 5-5 with a 3.61 ERA in 24 games including 16 starts. With the Thunder, he had 0-0 record with a 2.31 ERA in five games. He started Game #5 of the NDCS against the Portland Sea Dogs for the Thunder in the 2005 playoffs.

King was originally selected by the Yankees in sixth round of 2000 draft.

The Thunder begin a four-game series against the Connecticut Defenders at Waterfont Park Friday Night at 7:05pm. RHP Philip Hughes (3-3, 3.64) will start for the Thunder against Connecticut's Chris Begg (5-7, 3.80).
