Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
The Akron Aeros used two big innings to put away the Binghamton Mets and pick up a 9-2 win at Canal Park Friday. The loss evens the four-game series at two-games apiece as Binghamton lost for just the sixth time in their last 15 contests.
Akron (47-25) got to B-Mets starting pitcher William Collazo in the second, scoring five times. After Collazo (6-5) hit Ryan Mulhern and walked Jared Sandberg to open the inning, Wyatt Toregas drove them both in with a double. Once Pat Osborn scored Toregas with a sacrifice fly, Ivan Ochoa continued the inning with a single before Eider Torres launched a two-run homer to left for a 5-0 Akron lead.
The B-Mets (32-41) would get a run back in the fourth on three straight one-out hits off Dan Denham. Jorge Padilla started the rally with an infield hit before Michel Abreu singled to center. Andy Wilson then lined a base hit off Denham's glove, scoring Padilla and cutting Akron's lead to 5-1.
However, Akron would tack on three more with two out in the fifth, thanks to RBI singles by Ryan Goleski, Mulhern and Toregas for an 8-1 lead. Binghamton got a second run in the sixth when Padilla singled, moved to second on Abreu's walk off Denham (3-0) and to third on a wild pitch before coming home on Jay Caligiuri's groundout to second. Goleski picked up another RBI single for Akron in the sixth for the game's final tally.
Saturday, the B-Mets continue their seven-game road trip, starting a three-game series at Harrisburg. Tim McNab (2-2, 3.94) will start for Binghamton against Beltran Perez (5-1, 3.07) of Harrisburg. Game time is 6:05 from Commerce Bank Park with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 5:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
