Gwinnett Stripers News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves and presenting sponsor Gildan have announced they will partner for "Girls on the Run Day" in the G-Braves' regular season finale against the Charlotte Knights at 12:05 p.m. on Monday, September 7 at Coolray Field.
Gildan, which proudly supports the Gwinnett Braves and Triple-A Baseball, is aligned with Girls On the Run, "a transformational physical-activity-based positive youth development program for girls in third through eighth grades that teaches life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games."
On Monday, the Girls on the Run Atlanta Council will have a table on the concourse at Coolray Field to distribute information, engage fans and spread its message. The organization inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident by using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. The program culminates with a celebratory 5K run after the participants are physically and emotionally prepared to run. Girls on the Run aims to "unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness."
"We are proud to partner with Gildan to host Girls on the Run at the ballpark," G-Braves General Manager North Johnson said. "Girls on the Run serves an important role by promoting physical and mental health to young women in our community. We look forward to a great day to finish another exciting season at Coolray Field."
The Girls on the Run Atlanta Council has served more than 12,000 girls in Gwinnett, Cobb, Fulton and DeKalb counties since its formation in 2000. For more information, contact Council Director Lea Rolfes at lea@girlsontherunatlanta.org or visit girlsontherunatlanta.org.
The G-Braves will play a doubleheader against the International League South Division-leading Norfolk Tides beginning at 5:05 p.m. tonight at Harbor Park. Right-hander Jake Brigham (3-1, 5.19 ERA) will start game one for the G-Braves against righty Elih Villanueva (4-3, 4. 20 ERA) of Norfolk. Tony Schiavone has the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM and WSBRadio.com beginning at 4:30 p.m.
After the four-game series at Norfolk concludes on Friday, the G-Braves will complete the regular-season schedule with a three-game series against Charlotte from Saturday through Monday at Coolray Field. The first 2,000 fans through the gates for the 7:05 p.m. game on Saturday will receive a bobblehead of legendary Atlanta Braves pitcher and 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee Greg Maddux.
