Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Mud Hens looked to continue their winning streak at Fifth Third Field on Wednesday night as the Louisville Bats were back for game three of the series. With a record of 57-81, Larry Parrish sent Warwick Saupold to the mound to make the start as the Hens are knocking on the door of sixty wins by season's end. Saupold's last three appearances for Toledo came out of the pen prior to Wednesday night's start.

David Holmberg took the mound opposite of Saupold, looking to build on his last start against the Hens, which resulted in a win. However for the second straight night, the Toledo lineup was rolling early. Manny Pina led off the second with a base knock as he remains in the team lead for batting average. After a steal of second from Pina, Mike Hessman brought the backstop around to score on his twenty fourth double of the season. In the fourth Hens' slugger Jefry Marte stepped to the dish against Holmberg and greeted him with his fourteenth round tripper on a misille to dead center field.

Saupold's lone blemish on the evening came in the fifth as the righty surrendered a solo home run to Louisville's Juan Silva, closing the gap to a 2-1 score. Saupold was sharp through his five innings of work, as he sent eight Bats back to the dugout via the strikeout. In the bottom half of the frame, Steven Moya put the Hens third run up on the board as the slugger brought home Daniel Fields with an RBI double to center. Saupold was relieved by Rafael Dolis and Ian Krol who combined for three innings of scoreless relief.

The Hens tacked on an additional insurance run in the eighth in what seemed like deja vu as Mike Hessman doubled home Manny Pina off Brennan Bernardino, extending the lead to 4-1. Jeff Ferrell came on in the ninth to notch his fourth save of the season.

Game four of the series is set for Thursday, with the first pitch slated for 6:30 PM.
