Future Red Sox Back in Town Monday for 3-Game Homestand
July 13, 2019 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) are riding high on a four-game winning streak, including a season-best 13 runs and four homers on Thursday night in Hartford. After two more games on the road, they'll return home on Monday for a three-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox) at Delta Dental Stadium. Among the homestand's highlights, local sports heroes Chris Carpenter and Tim Schaller will host an autograph session to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester for Primary Bank Night on Monday.
The Fisher Cats (9-13) are suddenly surging in the second half, and sit one game out of second place in the Eastern Division standings. Top offensive prospect Kevin Smith hit two home runs in Friday night's win, and now leads the team with 10 long balls in 2019. Third-round pick Riley Adams is 4-for-8 with a homer in Hartford, while Nash Knight has gone 3-for-8 with a double and a big fly since returning from his first All-Star Game.
The Sea Dogs (9-13) have hit a second-half snag since their four-game series split in New Hampshire on Fourth of July Weekend, dropping five games in a row. Still, Portland offers a promising look at the future stars of Fenway Park, with four of Boston's top 10 prospects (according to MLB.com).
The No. 2 prospect in the Red Sox system, Bobby Dalbec, currently leads the Eastern League with 19 home runs, while No. 8 prospect C.J. Chatam ranks second in the league with a .306 batting average.
Portland OF Jarren Duran, who joined Fisher Cats pitcher Nate Pearson at the MLB All-Star Futures Game, is batting .327 between Advanced-A and Double-A as the Red Sox No. 9 prospect.
Pitching prospect Bryan Mata (No. 7) is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Fisher Cats, who handed him his first Double-A loss on July 7.
