PEORIA, IL- On Monday the Chiefs hosted the first annual Operation Santa Memorial Day 4 Mile Run/Walk. The race took place at 9 am on Monday May 26 and had just short of 350 participants.

Chris Friedman took first place for males, finishing in just 21:19, and Emily DeWald finished first among the females with a time of 23:59. The two first place finishers took home baseball bats signed by Chiefs Manager Ryne Sandberg and also had their picture taken with the Hall of Famer.

Coming in second place was Lorne Mills for the males with a time of 22:19 which was first in the 35-39 age division. Allison Had took second for the females coming in with 24:33 on the clock, which won the 30-34 age division. Aside from the two overall winners of the race, the top three male and female winners for each age division all won baseballs autographed by Chiefs players. The race began on Adams St. just outside O'Brien Field and came back up Jefferson to go behind the stadium. On the third lap, runners ran down the ramp onto the warning track and concluded the four mile run near first base.

The funds raised through the race will benefit Operation Santa, a Peoria-based charity project. Operation Santa sent more than 23,000 stockings to deployed members of the service in the last holiday season, and it is an event hosted annually by Central Illinois Proud Family of Marines. This year, the goal of Operation Santa is to send more than 30,000 stockings to the troops, and the race hosted by the Peoria Chiefs, Central Illinois Proud Family of Marines, and the Illinois Valley Striders will help them to achieve their goal.
