FORT WAYNE, IN - Kyle Smit snapped a winless streak dating back to last season to win his first game in a Loons' uniform as the Great Lakes Loons salvage one game out of the four game series against Fort Wayne, winning 5-3.

The Loons struck for three runs in the third inning. Andrew Lambo drove in Kenley Jansen and Jovanny Rosario with a bases-loaded single. The Loons struck for an additional run as Lambo was caught stealing and Juan Rivera scored from third.

Alfredo Silverio tagged a solo homer in the sixth to give the Loons a four-run advantage. Smit then surrendered three straight singles to begin the sixth inning and gave way to Jon Dutton, who allowed a bases-loaded walk and a ground-ball double play, with both plays producing a run. Fort Wayne added another run on a Dutton wild pitch to make the score 4-3, but that would be as close as the Wizards would get.

Back-to-back doubles by Pedro Baez and Jansen added a fifth run. Given Kutz hurled the final two innings to record his first save for the Loons.

Smit (1-3) went five innings, allowing five hits and three runs (all earned). All runs scored after he departed.

The Loons (23-27) have an off-day Tuesday, then return to action Wednesday in Lansing for their first meeting of the season against the Lugnuts. Wednesday's game begins at 7:05pm ET and will be carried in Mid-Michigan on the radio flagship home for Great Lakes Loons baseball, ESPN 100.9-FM, and worldwide online at Loons.com.

The Great Lakes Loons are the second-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
