Beloit Sky Carp News Release

In what turned out to be a slugfest, the Burlington Bees got the best of the Snappers Monday afternoon, winning by a final of 12-8. Beloit's Brian Kirwan picked up his third loss of the season, going four innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) off eight hits.

Beloit struck first Sunday with one run in the bottom of the first inning. The Snappers got their run on a Garrett Olson RBI-double to left field. Olson's double allowed Joe Benson, who hit a double of his own with one out, to score from second base. Benson's run, however, would be the only lead the Snappers would hold all game.

Burlington scored 10 runs over four innings that included a Mike Moustakas grand slam and an Adrian Ortiz three-run bomb. The ten run outburst put the Bees ahead 10-1 after four and a half innings.

The Snappers stormed back in the bottom of the fifth inning with two runs. An RBI-double from Ben Revere and a Joe Benson sac fly to center made it a 10-3 ballgame.

Beloit scored three more in the bottom of the sixth, one on a Steve Singleton RIB-single to right, and the other two on a throwing error by Burlington's Mike Moustakas. Mike's error helped the Snappers draw to within five, 10-5.

Mark Dolenc pulled the Snaps even closer with an RBI-double through the hole at short. Dolenc's RBI made it a 10-6 game after seven innings.

That would be as close as they would get, as they went on to lose to Burlington by a final of 12-8.

Jair Fernandez and Ramon Santana each had three hits for Beloit who dropped to 28-23 on the year.

Beloit still managed to take four of the five games from Burlington. The Snappers will now hit the road for four games against the Clinton LumberKings. Beloit's next home game is Sunday, June 1st.
