LumberKings complete series sweep of Kernels, 7-2

May 26, 2008 - The Clinton LumberKings completed a seven game sweep of the Cedar Rapids Kernels by the score of 7-2 in front 2,209 fans at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Clinton roughed up Kernels starter Jose Perez (0-1) for six runs (five earned) on 13 hits over five innings. Catcher Justin Pickett went 3-4 with two doubles, a home run and 3 RBI. Mitch Moreland also had three hits and an RBI as Clinton outhit the Kernels 15-5.

The Kernels cut the Clinton lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Clay Fuller and a sac fly by Jerry Gonzalez. Jay Brossman finished the day 2 for 4 as the Kernels were held to five hits. Gonzalez and Anel De Los Santos tallied the other two Kernel hits.

The LumberKings have won 10 games in a row against the Kernels and own the best record in professional baseball at 35-12. The Kernels finished their 11 game home stand at 3-8 and fall to 21-29 on the season.

After an off day on Tuesday, the Kernels head to Peoria and start a four game series with the Chiefs on Wednesday night from O'Brien Field.
