Bees Score 12 Runs And Defeat Beloit

Beloit, WI (May 26, 2008) - The Burlington Bees wrapped up a five-game series with Beloit by beating the Snappers for the first time this season 12-8. The Bees hit three homeruns in the contest including a grand slam off the bat of Mike Moustakas.

The Snappers got on the board first Monday afternoon by scoring one run against Bees starting pitcher Matt Mitchell. Mitchell settled in after the first inning as he did not allow another run for the next three innings. He did allow two runs in the fifth as he ends up allowing three runs in five innings of work with two strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season.

The Bees first got on the scoreboard in the second inning. With Kyle Martin on at second, Alwin Perez hit a single to tie the game 1-1. The Bees would go on to score runs in each of the next three innings. After scoring two runs in te third, Mike Moustakas hit his first ever grand slam in the fourth to give the Bees four more runs. In the fifth, Adrian Ortiz hit a three-run homerun, which gave the Bees a 10-1 lead.

The Snappers began a comeback in the fifth inning, which began a streak of four consecutive innings where the Snappers scored a run. Beloit got back within three runs but the Bees scored a run in both the eight and ninth innings to secure the four-run victory. The run in the ninth came via Kyle Martin's first homerun of the season.

Joe Augustine pitched four innings allowing five runs, three of which were earned, on eight hits to pick up his third save of the season. The Bees had 12 hits in the game. Ortiz had four hits while Martin had two.

The Bees have Tuesday off before beginning a four-game series at Quad Cities Wednesday night. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees return to Community Field on Sunday June 1st to begin a four-game series with Clinton.
