(Florence, KY) - The Florence Freedom (24-31) got key contributions throughout the lineup Wednesday night in a double header sweep of the Schaumburg Boomers (31-26). They took game one by a score of 5-2 and won game two by a final tally of 5-3.

Per Frontier League rules, both games were seven-inning contests after the scheduled Day/Night Double Header got postponed due to rain. It's the first double header the Freedom have swept in 2014.

In game one the Freedom used a four-run fifth inning to pull away from Schaumburg. But for a while the game looked to be going the Boomers' way. Bobby Martin led off the first inning with a single off Freedom starter Michael O'Neal. He would steal second and advance to third on an error by Florence shortstop Michael Wilson that allowed Joe De Pinto to reach base. Justin Vasquez hit a grounder to short where the only play was at second to get De Pinto so Martin scored to make it 1-0 in favor of the Boomers.

The Freedom responded right away in the bottom of the first as Cole Miles reached on a two-base error by second baseman Jordan Dean. Miles' grounder to second kicked off Dean and into shallow right-center so Miles used his speed to get all the way to second on the play. Miles advanced to third on a Buddy Sosnoskie ground-out and scored on Sam Eberle's single to right.

Schaumburg took another lead in the top of the third inning as De Pinto doubled and then proceeded to score on a Zak Blair error.

But Blair would have his redemption later in the game.

In the bottom of the fifth it all came undone for Schaumburg starter Eddie Cody (1-1). Ben Kline got things started with a triple to right-center. Adam Taylor singled him home and the game was tied at two. Miles singled as well and one out later Sam Eberle walked to load the bases for Joe Staley. Staley drew a walk as well and Taylor crossed the plate for the go-ahead run. With two outs and the bases loaded Blair delivered a two-RBI double to give the Freedom a 5-2 lead and some breathing room.

Schaumburg did not score after the third inning. Ed Kohout (1-2) worked an inning and a third of shutout ball for his first professional win. Jorge Marban picked up the save.

In game two the Freedom played some long ball. The teams traded runs through the first two innings before Florence took the lead for good in the third. Once again it was the Boomers getting on the board first as Gerard Hall smacked a RBI single to make it 1-0 in favor of Schaumburg. Florence flexed their muscles in the bottom of the first as Sosnoskie went deep for his first home run of the year. A Jordan Dean RBI single in the second gave Schaumburg a 2-1 lead but catcher Gaby Juarbe answered with a two-out RBI single to drive in Taylor in the bottom half of the game, tying the game at two.

Sosnoskie led off the third inning with a single and advanced to second on a ground-out. With two away Blair delivered a clutch single to drive home Sosnoskie and give the Freedom a 3-2 lead.

Taylor delivered some valuable insurance in the fourth. Michael Wilson singled to start the inning and Taylor launched his first professional home run to make it a 5-2 Freedom lead.

Cincinnati native Casey Henn (5-4) picked up the victory for Florence, going six innings, scattering five hits, surrendering only two runs while walking three and striking out two. Marban had a bit of trouble in the ninth, allowing one run, but he still picked up his second save of the day and his 10th of the season. The Freedom welcome the Rockford Aviators to town Thursday night. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. and Cincinnati native Dave Middendorf (3-5, 4.43 ERA) takes the mound for Florence.
