Elias Has Contract Purchased by Miami Marlins

NORMAL, Ill. - The Miami Marlins have purchased the contract of right handed pitcher Ethan Elias from the Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers.

The Edmonton, Alberta native, Elias, has appeared in 12 games for the CornBelters and started four this season. He has stuck out 40 batters in 35 innings pitched while posting a 4.62 ERA.

"We are thrilled for Ethan. It is always a good day when one of your players gets to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing affiliated baseball," said CornBelters Field Manager Brooks Carey. "All of his hard work and dedication to the game is being rewarded. He will be very successful and we wish him the best of luck in the future."

Elias joined the CornBelters after spending the 2012 and 2013 seasons in the Chicago Cubs organization. The six foot four inch right handed pitcher spent the 2012 season with the Arizona Cubs (Rookie League) and then spent the 2013 season between the AZL Cubs and the Boise Hawks (Class Low-A). In his two seasons with the Cubs organization, Elias had a combined 4.05 ERA while appearing in 28 games. He tossed over 60 innings and recorded 51 strikeouts.

He was drafted in the 22nd round of the 2011 MLB Amateur Player Draft by the Chicago Cubs. The 21 year old was drafted out of Grand Trunk High School after his senior season.
