Joliet Slammers News Release
The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-lost to Traverse City 4-2 in 11 innings on Wednesday night at Silver Cross Field. It was their 2nd straight extra inning contest and 11th of the season.
It was another very well pitched game to conclude the series. Both runs in regulation for the Beach Bums came in the 6th inning against Andrew Busby. Yazy Arbelo ripped a 2-run homer to right for their only runs until the 11th inning. Busby earned his fourth-straight no-decision despite allowing just those two runs on 7 1/3 innings. He gave up just five hits and struck out four while walking only one. The Beach Bums starter Ian McDougall was just as effective. He gave up an early run to Joliet on an RBI single from new Slammers second baseman Adrian English. English was playing in his first game for the Slammers after being signed out of Barry University in Florida. Joliet would not score against him again until the 8th inning. After a Grant DeBruin single, Russell Moldenhauer doubled him in to tie the game at 2-2. DeBruin has now hit safely in 30 of his last 33 games. McDougall finished with 8 innings worked and he gave up two runs on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
Sam Moore went 2 2/3 innings in relief for Joliet and was charged with two runs in the 11th. Jose Vargas made it 3-2 on a sacrifice fly and Kevin Taylor singled in their final run to make it 4-2. DJ Johnson earned the save for the Beach Bums, his 14th of the season by retiring Joliet in order.
The Slammers now begin a six-game road trip to Windy City and then Traverse City. Joliet will return for another six game home stand beginning Wednesday July 30th at 7:05pm.
