West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

GENEVA, IL - Jeff Frazier hit a three-run homer to give West Michigan the lead and Wilkin Ramirez went 3-for-4 with two runs scored as the Whitecaps out-dueled Kane County, 8-4. With the win, West Michigan earns a 2-2 split in the series at Elfstrom Stadium and a 4-4 split in the season series.

The Cougars had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth, thanks in part to three two-out walks issued by relief pitcher Anthony Tomey. Kevin Whelan came on to strike out Luis Perez with the bases loaded and end the game. Whelan earned his fifth save in five opportunities. He matches Collin Mahoney, who earlier this year converted five consecutive save opportunities for West Michigan.

Frazier's home run erased a one-run deficit and put the Whitecaps on top, 4-2 in the third. This was after Jose Pineda clubbed a two-run homer in the second to put the Cougars on top. Frazier has matched Ramirez for the team lead with 12 homers on the year. Both Frazier and Clete Thomas have hit safely in 11 consecutive games for West Michigan.

Luis Sabino came up with a two-run single in the seventh stretched the lead to 7-2. Sabino has now collected at least one RBI in each of his last four games.

Dallas Trahern went six innings and gave up just two runs on four hits to earn the victory for West Michigan.

Ryan Ford entered the game third in the Midwest League in victories, but the lefty took his second loss of the season against the Whitecaps. Ford allowed five runs on eight hits.

Raul Padron hit a solo home run for the Cougars in the bottom of the seventh, which cut the lead to 8-3.
