
Rattlers crush Bees

BURLINGTON, IA -- Marshall Hubbard, Josh Womack, and Jeff Clement each had three hits and Julio Santiago allowed one unearned run over six innings in the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 10-2 win over the Burlington Bees Thursday night at Community Field. Hubbard drove in three runs and Yung Chi Chen knocked in two as the Rattlers had seventeen hits to earn a split in the four game series.
Burlington (62-62 overall, 30-24 second half) scored an unearned run in the bottom of the second. An error by Santiago on a pickoff throw allowed a runner to go from first to third. Eddie Solis drove in the runner with a sacrifice fly.
Wisconsin (69-55, 30-24) tied the game with a sacrifice fly of their own in the top of the third. Hubbard knocked in Brent Johnson to even the game at 1-1.
The Rattler bats got going in the fourth. Chris Colton started the inning with a double. Matt Tuiasosopo followed with an RBI double. Clement was next and singled to drive home Tuiasosopo and the Rattlers had a 3-1 lead.
An RBI triple by Chen in the top of the fifth extended the Rattler advantage to 4-1. Hubbard doubled to right and Chen scored for a 5-1 lead. Hubbard scored on a sacrifice fly by Colton.
Chen and Hubbard combined to drive in two more runs in the seventh. Chen doubled to knock in Womack. Hubbard followed with an RBI single and Wisconsin had an 8-1 advantage.
Santiago left with that 8-1 lead and seven strikeouts and no walks after six innings.
Burlington scored an unearned run against reliever Jon Lockwood in the bottom of the seventh.
So, the Rattler offense picked up two more runs -- RBI double by Omar Falcon and RBI single by Josh Womack -- to go in front 10-2.
The Rattlers begin a four game series with the Lansing Lugnuts Friday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Randy Frye (2-4, 8.12ERA) is scheduled to be the starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Lansing will counter with Chi-Hung Cheng (6-6, 2.91ERA). Game time is 7:05pm.
