Dayton Dragons News Release

Lansing, MI - The Dayton Dragons (20-33, 50-73) picked up back-to-back road wins for the first time since late June with a 9-6 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (23-31, 59-63) in front of 3,577 at Oldsmobile Park in Lansing on Wednesday night.

Adam Rosales got Dayton on the board in the top of the first inning with a solo homer to left off A.J. Wireman (L, 6-9). The fourth of the season for Rosales gave the Dragons the 1-0 lead. The lead was extended to 2-0 with another single tally in the top of the second inning on a Trevor Law horn one out triple and a sac fly by Jordan Belcher.

Lansing tied the game in the bottom of the second inning with a pair of unearned runs off Dayton starter Aaron Garrison (ND). A Rosales error gave Lansing an "extra out" and the Lugnuts took advantage scoring on an RBI single by Jason Armstrong and a sac fly by Aaron Mathews that tied the game at 2-2.

The game remained a 2-2 tie until the top half of the sixth inning when Dayton jumped on Wideman, chasing him from the contest. Following a Cody Strait strikeout to start the inning off, Wideman walked Rosales and Gutierrez and loaded the bases allowing an infield single to Jeremiah Piepkorn. John Purdom, who was 0-11 in the series came up and delivered with a gap double to left center scoring all three runners and giving the Dragons a 5-2 lead. Wideman was lifted in favor of Dewon Day (ND) who served up a two run homer to Trevor Lawhorn, giving the Dragons a 7-2 lead.

Lansing chipped away at the Dayton advantage with two runs in the sixth inning. Eugenio Velez crushed a ball off the batter's eye in dead center off Joe Powers (W, 1-0) for a two run homer that cut the lead to 7-4. That would be the only blemish on Powers night in 3.0 innings of work, as the right hander returned to Dayton after making his Dragons debut in 2002. Following elbow and shoulder surgery, Powers missed the entire 2003 and 2004 seasons.

In the seventh inning, Lansing closed to 7-6 with a pair of runs off Carlos Bohorquez (SV, 1). A lead off single by Christian Snavely and a double to David Hicks put runners at first and third. Jordan Belcher's throw from right field missed everything and allowed Snavely to score and moved Hicks to third. Ryan Klosterman followed with an RBI double to right field and the Dayton lead was cut to one at 7-6.

The Dragons added insurance in the top half of the ninth inning with a two run homer run from Piepkorn, his 19th of the season. The blast off reliever Jordan Timm (ND) scored Gutierrez who walked with two down and gave Dayton a 9-6 lead.

Strait and Gutierrez saw their hitting streaks come to an end with hitless performances on the evening. Strait's was stopped at a Dragons franchise record 19 games, while Gutierrez had his come to an end at 11 in a row.

The Dragons and Lugnuts wrap up the four game series Thursday night at Oldsmobile Park. LHP Camilo Vazquez will make the start for the Dragons, while Lansing will send RHP Russ Savickas to the mound. The pre game show begins on 1410 ESPN Radio WING AM at 5:30 PM. Thursday's day first pitch is slated for 6:05 PM.
