Four Tortugas Named to All-Star Game

PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - The Florida State League announced the 2017 All-Star teams Thursday afternoon, which includes four Daytona Tortugas. Catcher Chris Okey, second baseman Shed Long, third baseman Nick Senzel and reliever Tanner Rainey have been chosen to represent the Tortugas at the 56th annual FSL All-Star game. The game will take place at Joker Marchant Stadium, the home of the Lakeland Flying Tigers, on Saturday, June 17, with first pitch at 7:05 PM.

Chris Okey is batting .169 with a home run and 12 RBI in 41 games. Okey hit his first career grand slam against Tampa on May 20th, driving in a career-high six runs. He has caught the third most games in the league and has thrown out 32% of attempted base stealers this season. It's the first all-star appearance for Okey in the catcher's two year career.

Shed Long is batting .321 with nine home runs and 30 RBI in 49 games. He leads the team in batting average, while ranking second in both home runs and RBI. Long ranks fifth in the league in batting average, second in total hits (62) and third in total bases (102). The infielder hit .359 in the month of May, third best mark in the league and has been involved in more double plays than any other second baseman in the league (37). The reigning FSL Player of the Week is heading to the first all-star game of his five-year career.

Nick Senzel is batting .298 with three home runs and 19 RBI in 50 games. Senzel is third on the team with 15 multiple-hit games and is batting .319 against fellow right-handers. Senzel is fourth in the league in hits (59) and extra-base hits (24) and first in doubles (20). The third baseman has helped turn more double plays than any other third baseman in the league (12) and hit .317 in the month of May, eighth best in the FSL. It's the first all-star appearance for Senzel in his two-year career.

Tanner Rainey is 0-2 with a 3.91 ERA and six saves in eight opportunities over 21 games pitched from Daytona's bullpen. He started the year with eight no-hit innings, striking out 18 of 25 batters through his first six outings. He converted six straight saves from April 22nd to May 16th, tossing eight scoreless innings with just one hit allowed. He has held righties to a .091 (5-for-55) batting average, striking out more than half. Rainey is fourth in the league in converted saves, first in appearances, third in games finished and second in opposing batting average (.114). He has the highest strikeout per nine innings pitched ratio in the league (14.9) and has permitted the third fewest baserunners per nine innings (7.8) in the FSL. Rainey was an all-star with Dayton last season.
