St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Daytona Tortugas scored twice in the top of the 10th to beat the St. Lucie Mets 4-2 on Thursday at First Data Field.

The Mets had won their previous five extra innings games.

In the top of the 10th, Nick Senzel and Gavin LaValley hit back-to-back singles. Garrett Boulware dropped down a sac bunt that third baseman Jhoan Urena dropped and then threw wildly into right field to allow Senzel to score and take the lead. Austin McGeorge's following pitch was wild and LaValley came home to make it 4-2.

The Mets got a walk from John Mora in the bottom of the 10th but couldn't rally any further against Tanner Rainey.

The Mets had a shot to win the game in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Arnaldo Berrios lined out to second base.

The Mets took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Mora led off with a double, went to third on an error and scored on a J.C. Rodriguez sac fly.

St. Lucie missed out on a golden opportunity to break the game open in the fourth. The bases were loaded with one out, but Okeechobee High School graduate Jonathon Crawford induced an inning-ending double play off the bat of Peter Alonso.

Mets start Joseph Shaw battled for five scoreless inning before running into trouble in the sixth. Senzel and LaValley started that inning with hits and Shaw was taken out with one out. Alex Palsha came in and served up two run-scoring singles on his first two pitches to Chadwick Tromp and Reydel Medina. Those hits put Daytona up 2-1.

The Mets tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. Mora started the frame with a walk and eventually scored from third on a wild pitch by Crawford.

Shaw went 5.1 innings and struck out five. He scattered five hits and two runs.

Crawford pitched six innings which was his longest outing of the year. He allowed just one earned run.

The Mets (27-27) and Tortugas (28-25) play the finale of their four-game series at First Data Field on Friday. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
