In the second game of a doubleheader, which was a makeup from a rainout in El Paso, the Chihuahuas served as the home team, batting last at Isotopes Park. Brandon Dixon belted a game-ending two-run homer to cap a four-run seventh inning, giving El Paso a 7-6 victory and a sweep of the twinbill. El Paso pounced on Isotopes starter Brandon Gold in the second inning of Game 1, scoring all the runs they would need. Gold issued consecutive bases-loaded walks, then Taylor Kohlwey and Luis Liberato each picked up an RBI single, making it 4-0 Chihuahuas. Albuquerque got a run back in the home second when Bret Boswell doubled with one out, before scoring on a two-out single by LJ Hatch. With two outs and the bases empty in the fourth, the Chihuahuas strung together four consecutive softly-hit singles against Ty Blach. Brandon Dixon and Cam Gallagher capped the rally by each knocking in a run, as El Paso went ahead 6-1. In the nightcap with Albuquerque serving as the away team, Ashton Goudeau worked a scoreless first inning before Kyle Martin's RBI single gave the Chihuahuas a 1-0 lead. The Isotopes got off the schneid in the top of the fourth when Sam Hilliard and D.J. Peterson connected on back-to-back homers. Peterson's traveled 456 feet to straightaway center field. C.J. Hinojosa brought home the tying run with an RBI double in the fourth, but Albuquerque had an answer two frames later. Jonathan Morales launched a solo homer off the scoreboard in left-center in the sixth, providing the Isotopes a 3-2 lead. The advantage did not last long, as Brandon Dixon led off the bottom of the sixth with a line-drive homer into the Smith's Pavilion, knotting it 3-3. The Isotopes took advantage of wildness by Chihuahuas reliever Jose Quezada in the seventh. He walked Taylor Snyder and hit Bret Boswell to start the frame. After an out, Coco Montes walked before Hilliard also got plunked by a pitch, forcing in the go-ahead run. The free bases did not stop there, as Peterson walked on four pitches, bringing in Boswell and giving the Isotopes a 5-3 edge. Morales capped the frame with a sacrifice fly, meaning the Topes scored three runs on zero hits in the seventh inning. Albuquerque closer Zach Lee ran into trouble in the bottom of the seventh, allowing a leadoff double to Kyle Martin, then Michael Cantu immediately singled him home. Thomas Milone followed with a walk and Matt Batten singled, loading the bases and putting the tying run at second base. Luis Liberato then grounded into a double play, which brought home a run and moved the tying runner to third. Dixon followed with his second homer of the night, a walk-off two-run blast into the Chihuahuas bullpen, as they prevailed 7-6. Jimmy Herron muscled up for his second Triple-A homer in the fourth, but that would be the extent of Albuquerque's scoring in the opener.
Topes Scope: - With only the opener today counting as a home game for the Isotopes, they have officially lost seven home games in a row. It is their worst streak since dropping eight in a row at Isotopes Park from June 17-28, 2016.
- The Chihuahuas two victories extended their win streak over the Isotopes to eight games, the longest head-to-head streak by either team in the all-time series.
- Albuquerque is 0-2 all-time when playing as the visiting team at Isotopes Park. They fell 12-6 to the Memphis Redbirds on Aug. 17, 2008, in the resumption of a game that had been suspended in Tennessee.
- The Isotopes suffered their ninth walk-off loss of the season, setting a new franchise-worst for one campaign. Four of them have been at the hands of El Paso.
- Albuquerque was swept in a doubleheader for the first time since July 27, 2019 vs. Salt Lake.
- Dixon's blast was the fifth walk-off home run surrendered by Albuquerque in 2022, also setting a new worst for a single season.
- Hilliard and Peterson combined for the 10th set of back-to-back homers by Albuquerque this season. The most recent occurrence had been Tim Lopes and Bret Boswell in the eighth inning on Sept. 1 at Sugar Land.
- Hilliard has 56 home runs in an Albuquerque uniform, 10 away from tying Jordan Patterson for the most ever by an Isotopes player. He currently has the third-most, behind Patterson's 66 and Jason Wood's 60.
- Herron was 2-for-4 in Game 1, his second consecutive two-hit game. The other time he recorded back-to-back multi-hit contests at Triple-A was Aug. 21-24, at Tacoma and vs. Round Rock.
- Gold's 1.2 inning stint in Game 1 marked the ninth time this season an Isotopes pitcher did not make it through the second inning due to performance. It has happened three times in the last 15 contests, including Goudeau (Aug. 23 vs. Round Rock) and Zach Neal (Sept. 1 at Sugar Land).
- Blach worked 4.1 frames of two-run ball in the opener, his longest outing since a five-inning start for the Orioles on Sept. 3, 2019 at Tampa Bay. He threw 62 pitches, his second-most in an outing in 2022. In 2.2 innings on June 10 at San Diego, Blach threw 65 pitches.
