Four Late Goals Sink Sea Wolves in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Mississippi Sea Wolves held even with the Charlotte Checkers for the first 50 minutes, but four late third-period goals sank the Pack as Charlotte came out victorious by the score of 5-1.

Charlotte's Chris Capraro, playing in his first game with the Checkers since returning from Germany, took a feed in the low slot from Ryan Hillier, who was behind the net, and popped it past Jeremy Duchesne for a power play goal and a 1-0 Charlotte lead at 11:47 of the first period.

Bill LeClerc's first goal of the season drew the Sea Wolves even as LeClerc fired a wrist shot from the left point through a tangle of traffic in front of the net and past Checkers goalie Jeff Jakaitis to even the score at one-apiece.

The Checkers took the lead for good in the third period when Ryan Hillier found a loose puck and beat Jeremy Duchesne through traffic at 4:35 of the third period. The Checkers would get insurance goals from David Rutherford at 11:07, Mike Bayrack at 12:16, and Brad Ralph at 19:05 as the commanded the third period en route to a 5-1 lead.

Jeremy Duchesne made 32 saves to take the loss, and John Hallas made three saves in seven minutes of relief work.

The next broadcast of Sea Wolves hockey is Saturday when the Sea Wolves visit the South Carolina Stingrays at 6:00 CT, and will be heard on the B2 Networks and at www.msseawolves.com. The pre-game show presented by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will begin 15 minutes before the opening faceoff!
