Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs lost to Elmira on home ice for the first time on Friday night at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial by a score of 3-2.

The power play did in the Chiefs as it went 0 for 7, while the Jackals scored all of their goals on the power play going 3 for 9.

Elmira's Josh Aspenlind got the scoring started at the 8:46 mark of the first with his 13th goal of the season. Johstown was able to tie the score at the 14:31 mark when Jarrett Konkle scored his fifth goal as a Chief and his 20th overall. Andy Contois and Todd Griffith picked up assists on the play.

It only took 33 seconds of the second for Johnstown to take the lead, as Konkle picked up his second of the night on a wicked wrist shot beating Mitch O'Keefe top shelf. Contois got his second assist of the night, and Griffith also assisted for his first multi-point game as a Chief.

The third period did not go Johnstown's way, as Elmira notched two more power play goals. After Griffith was penalized two minutes for roughing and five for fighting, Chris Korchinski took advantage scoring his 14th of the year to tie the game at two. Then with 5:05 left Wes Clark was called for tripping, again giving Elmira the man advantage, and just 14 seconds later Aspenlind scored his second of the night to give Elmira the 3-2 win.

Kris Mayotte stopped 21 of 24 shots in the losing effort. Johnstown was 0 for 7 on the power play.
