Johnstown Chiefs News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch, announced today that rookie center Ryan Del Monte was named to the American Conference All-Star team. Also today, the Chiefs signed former all-star Todd Griffith.

Del Monte is the only player to appear in all 37 games for the Chiefs during his first pro season, tallying 10 goals and 19 assists for 29 points. The former Brock University captain also leads the team with a plus-15 rating which also ranks him fourth in the ECHL among rookies. Del Monte has steadily increased his production throughout the campaign. After scoring three goals in the first two months of the year, Del Monte more than doubled his goal total with four markers in December, and now has scored three times in five games in January.

Griffith signed today after starting the season in England with the Newcastle Vipers. Griffith played in all of the Vipers' 35 games before returning to the states. He led the team with 16 goals, and ranked fifth on the Vipers in scoring with 26 points. The forward represented the Bakersfield Condors at the 2008 ECHL All-Star game in Stockton, CA, and competed in the fastest skater competition. As a rookie in 2006-07, Griffith finished fourth on the Condors with 26 goals.

Mark your calendars, the Chiefs are back on home ice on Friday, January 16. Johnstown will be hosting its Pittsburgh Sports Night as they take on the Elmira Jackals at 7:05 PM. Wear your Steelers, Penguin or Pirates gear to the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial because the biggest Pittsburgh sports fan will take home a prize pack.
