Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI-The Traverse City Beach Bums are excited to announce that the team is sending four players to represent the club in the 2011 Frontier League All-Star Game on July 13 at All Pro Freight Stadium.
Matt Brown and J.T. Hall will represent the East as starters while Scott Mueller and Bryan Banes were voted to the pitching staff.
Scott Mueller is one of three closers selected to the team. Mueller has followed up a successful 2010 season with a good start to his 2011 campaign, going 1-1 with a 2.18 ERA and nine saves at the time of his selection. This is Mueller's second Frontier League All-Star Selection.
Bryan Banes is a member of the pitching staff. Banes is tied for second in the Frontier League in wins with five and has a team-best 2.96 ERA among starting pitchers. Banes is the Beach Bums lone first-time selection this season.
Matt Brown makes the team as a starting outfielder. During the first half, Brown compiled a 21-game hitting streak, during which he hit .361. Brown is hitting near the top of the Frontier League with a .358 batting average. This is Brown's second Frontier League All-Star selection.
Hall is slated to start in the outfield after collecting the most votes in the balloting process. The Beach Bums left fielder leads the team in numerous offensive categories. His 11 home runs have him tied for second place in the Frontier League. He's also tied for sixth place in RBI's (35) and leads the team with nine stolen bases. The game will be Hall's second Frontier League All-Star selection and third overall by having made the Florida State League All-Star team in 2008.
