River City Rascals News Release

Avon, Ohio - Rascals' starter Josh Lowey pitched six scoreless innings and the bullpen followed with three of their own as River City rode its pitching staff to a 1-0 decision over Lake Erie for their 30th win.

Lowey (3-2) spread out seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts and he clung to a one-run lead after a fourth inning RBI single from Stephen Holdren that scored Chad Maddox after a leadoff double.

The defense chipped in with some nice plays, including a bases loaded 1-2-3 double-play to end the Lake Erie (18-24) threat in the sixth.

Kirkland Rivers and Brandon Cunniff combined to pitch a scoreless seventh and eighth, setting up Derrick Miramontes for the save in the ninth. It would not be easy.

After a leadoff bloop single by Chris Luick to left-center, Miramontes retired the next batter on a diving tag play near first base on a sacrifice hit that pushed Luick to second. A wild pitch moved him to third with one out, but Miramontes struck out leadoff hitter Patrick Norris on a full count before retiring Jodam Rivera on a ground out for his seventh save.

River City returns home for six-game home stand that starts with Washington Tuesday night with first pitch set for 7:05. The Rascals will send All-Star Zack Sterner (5-0, 1.73) to the mound against the WildThings' Justin Edwards (0-2, 3.65).
