
Five Wild Things Players Selected for 2011 All-Star Game

WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, will be well represented at the 2011 Frontier League All-Star Game, with five players selected to make the trip to Avon, Ohio, next week. Wild Things selections include second baseman Scott Lawson, catcher Blake Ochoa and right-handed pitchers Casey Barnes, Justin Hall and Jhonny Montoya.
Lawson leads the Wild Things in most offensive categories this season, including batting average (.319), hits (43), doubles (8), home runs (tied-4) and RBI (19). He also ranks fifth in the Frontier League in on-base percentage (.425) through July 3.
Ochoa has seen work behind the plate for the Wild Things in 35 out of 36 games thus far this season. With a .988 fielding percentage, he has caught nine runners stealing base. He is also tied for the team lead in home runs with four and has driven in 12 runs.
Barnes (2-3) ranks second in the Frontier League with a 1.91 ERA. In 42.1 innings pitched, he has struck out 28 batters while walking 11.
Hall (4-2) leads the Wild Things in number of win in 2011 and has accumulated 30 strikeouts to nine walks in 52.1 innings. His two complete-game shutouts puts him tied for first in the league for shutouts and tied for third for complete games this season.
Also among the league ERA leaders, Montoya (1-1, 2.20 ERA) leads the Wild Things with 32 strikeouts this year. He has pitched 49 innings in eight games.
The five Wild Things were chosen through a vote by Frontier League general managers, field managers, coaches and media. The 2011 Frontier League All-Star game will take place at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio, home of the Lake Erie Crushers. All-Star events open with a Fan Fest and Home Run Derby on Tuesday, July 12, followed by the game at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13.
