LOVES PARK, Ill. - Three Rockford RiverHawks have been picked for next week's Frontier League All-Star Game.
Infielders Jake Eigsti and Luis Parache and pitcher Brett Durand have been voted onto the East Division team for the all-star game, scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CDT July 13 at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio, home of the Lake Erie Crushers. Eigsti is the East's starting shortstop. Parache is a reserve infielder. All three were picked in polling by league general managers, field managers, coaches, radio broadcasters and local media.
Eigsti, batting .420 entering Monday afternoon's game against Evansville, leads the league in hitting by 62 points. He lead the RiverHawks in the other two Triple Crown categories, with seven home runs and 33 RBI. Eigsti began the year with a 13-game hitting streak and reached base in each of his first 23 games.
Parache, who has played primarily third base but has also appeared at three other positions, is batting .297 with three home runs and 24 RBI.
Durand, the team's closer, is 2-1 with an 0.98 ERA and seven saves in 16 appearances. He has 24 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings and opposing batters are hitting .188. On Saturday, Durand became the fourth pitcher in the RiverHawks' 10-year history to earn 20 career wins. He also moved into sole possession of third place on the team's career strikeout list.
