SERIES AT A GLANCE: The Flying Squirrels will aim for their third consecutive win against the Reading Phillies in the opener of a three-game series at The Diamond tonight. Starter Justin Fitzgerald (1-0) tossed five scoreless innings and earned his first win of the season as Richmond defeated Altoona 3-1 yesterday and took three of the four games in the series. A quartet of relievers combined to yield just one run in the final four innings and Brett Bochy worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save of the season. Chris Dominguez went 1-for-3 and scored two of Richmond's three runs. Meanwhile, Reading topped Harrisburg 9-3 to earn a split in the four-game series against the Senators. The R-Phils are currently 8-3 and tied with the New Britain Rock Cats for first place in Eastern League's Eastern DivisionThe Flying Squirrels went 5-5 against Reading in 2011 including a 2-1 mark at The Diamond. Richmond is 13-17 all-time against the R-Phils and the club is 7-6 all-time in the River City. The two teams will meet 16 times in 2012, 7 times in Reading and 9 times in Richmond. Following this three-game series on the opening home stand, the R-Phils will not return to Richmond until July 7th-9th. The next meeting between the two teams will be April 24th-26th at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading.

TODAY'S PITCHERS: RHP Craig Westcott vs. RHP Tyler Cloyd Westcott: Makes his third start of the season for the Flying Squirrels tonight. In his last start, Westcott allowed a career-high 13 hits and six earned runs along with one walks and in 5.1 innings at Bowie Wednesday. He took the loss in Richmond's 11-6 setback. Westcott has surrendered 18 hits and nine earned runs in 9.2 innings pitched in 2012. After splitting the 2010 season between Advanced-A San Jose and Richmond, Westcott spent the entire 2011 campaign back in San Jose. Westcott enjoyed a banner year in the California League as he posted a 13-4 record with a 3.42 ERA in 25 appearances, including 24 starts. His 13 wins tied for the most in the Cal League and he finished fourth in the circuit in ERA (3.42). As a result, Westcott was named both a Mid- Season and Postseason All- Star. He was also a Mid-Season All-Star in the Cal League in 2010 after going 6-0 with a miniscule 1.83 ERA in 13 starts with San Jose before being promoted to Richmond. Westcott did not enjoy the same level of success with the Flying Squirrels however, as he compiled a 3-3 mark with a 5.13 ERA in the second half of the season. He owns a record of 29-9 with a 3.47 ERA in 67 career minor league appearances, including 59 starts. The Chalmette, LA native was selected by the Giants in the 30th round of the 2009 June Draft out of Belhaven (MS) College.

Cloyd: Makes his third start of the season and his second start for Reading tonight. Cloyd made his first start of the year with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and worked six perfect innings and struck out 8 batters in the IronPigs season opener against Scranton/ Wilkes Barre. As a result, he earned his first Triple-A win before returning to Reading. In his first start with the R-Phils, Cloyd gave up six hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts and no walks in six innings pitched vs. New Hampshire Wednesday. He earned the win in Reading's 4-2 victory. The right-hander split the 2011 campaign between Advanced-A Clearwater and Reading, amassing a 9-4 mark with a 3.39 ERA in 31 appearances, including 22 starts. He went 6-3 with a 2.78 ERA in 18 appearances, including 17 starts with the R-Phils. Cloyd went 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA (2 ER/8 IP) in two appearances, including one start against the Flying Squirrels in 2011. In 111 career minor league appearances, including 68 starts, Cloyd owns a 35-21 record with a 3.58 ERA. Cloyd was selected by the Phillies in 18th round of the 2008 June Draft out of Bellevue East (NE) HS.

STRANDED: Flying Squirrels relievers inherited seven total runners on base in yesterday's 3-1 win over Altoona and allowed only one to score. Richmond relievers have inherited 11 runners over the last two games, stranding 10. Overall on the season, the bullpen has inherited 28 runners, stranding 21 (75%).

HOME COOKIN': The Flying Squirrels claimed victory in three of their first four home games of the 2012 season, which continues a trend that has emerged through the club's first two seasons; winning consistently at The Diamond. Last year, Richmond went 45-26 at home. In 2010, the Flying Squirrels went 37-33 at home. In two-plus seasons, Richmond is 85-60 (.586 winning percentage) at The Diamond, living up to the "Defend The Nest" mantra, which was created by Johnny Monell last season.

ATTENDANCE WATCH: Through the first four games of the 71-game home slate, Richmond has a total attendance of 33,179 and attracted an average of 8,295 fans per game, sitting atop the Eastern League in both categories. The Squirrels are currently drawing nearly 1,000 more fans per game at this point this year than in 2011, when the club attracted an average of 7, 298 fans during the opening home stand. In 2010, Richmond averaged 8,820 fans in the opening home stand.
