New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - John Tolisano chased home Jonathan Diaz with a run-scoring double in the third inning, and the Fisher Cats received more quality pitching to beat the Binghamton Mets, 2-1, on Monday night. The victory snaps a Fisher Cats' five-game losing streak in the opener of a three-game series with the Mets at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
The low-scoring contest played out as advertised between the two teams with the lowest batting averages in the Eastern League. The Fisher Cats totaled nine hits with the biggest coming by Tolisano in the second inning. With a man at second, Tolisano drilled a ball to the gap in left-center, scoring Jonathan Diaz to break a scoreless game. After a sacrifice bunt, Tolisano scored on a wild pitch to give the Fisher Cats a 2-0 lead.
From there, it was all about the pitching. Ryan Tepera (W; 1-1) earned his first Double-A victory for the Fisher Cats, allowing just one run over 5.2 innings. The righty issued four walks and four hits, but worked around most of the damage with five strikeouts.
The Fisher Cats bullpen was equally impressive, combing for 3.1 shutout innings. Matt Daly and Aaron Loup each threw a scoreless frame before Ronald Uviedo picked up his third save by recording the final four outs of the game.
In a nine hit effort, Mike McDade led the Fisher Cats with three singles. Koby Clemens picked up his first multi-hit game with a pair of singles, a walk, and two stolen bases.
The Fisher Cats now look to take the series in the middle game on Tuesday night at 6:35 PM. It's a US Cellular Academic All-Stars Night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Tickets are available at www.nhfishercats.com, by calling 603-641-2005, and at the Northeast Delta Dental Box Office.
RHP Chad Jenkins (1-1, 4.15) takes the ball for New Hampshire against Binghamton RHP Collin McHugh (1-1, 2.31). You can follow the action with Tom Gauthier and Bob Lipman beginning at 6:15 PM on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
