Senators Drop Series Opener to Altoona 5-2
Published on April 16, 2012 under Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
Monday night the Senators fell behind 3-0 early, rallied, but eventually fell to the Altoona Curve 5-2. The Sens have lost two straight for the first time this year and it's the fourth time in four series they have fallen in game one.
Paul Demny started for the Sens and lasted just three innings in taking the loss. He allowed three runs on four hits and walked five batters. Erik Davis followed and pitched four solid innings, allowing a couple of runs but keeping the Sens in the game. Marcos Frias and Christian Garcia both pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
Trailing 3-0 into the bottom of the fourth, Jeff Kobernus doubled and scored on a single by Chris Rahl. Rahl then stole third and scored when Sandy Leon bounced into a double play, cutting the Altoona lead to 3-2. Harrisburg had a base runner in each of their final four at bats but couldn't produce the hits to score runs.
Kobernus and Rahl both had two hits in the loss.
Eury Perez and Jeff Kobernus opened up the bottom of the first with back to back infield singles but Perez was caught stealing to short circuit the inning.
Game two of the three game series is Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. with RH Jeff Mandel on the hill for the Senators against RH Mike Colla for the Altoona Curve. The game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website and iHeart radio, and on your iPod or iPad beginning with the pregame show at 6:40 p.m.
